- Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition - One of six centres which carry out work for the US Food and Drug Administration. The site contains a wealth of material on foodborne microbial diseases and other food related health topics. The section entitled "the bad bug book" is an excellent resource for bacterial,protozoan, fungal and viral foodborne diseases. Material on the site is also extensively linked to other scientific web sites.

Given the latest silly hype about genetically modified foods this may help to educate the great mass of the UK public about the techniques and safety issues - but I doubt it!

- Molecular Expressions - Images from the Microscope - An excellent site which offers some amazing galleries of photographs which explore the fascinating world of optical microscopy. The ‘Photo Gallery’ provides an introductory selection covering just about everything from beer and ice cream to integrated circuits and ceramic superconductors. Also included is a primer on microscopy which is suitable for level three students.
