How the Weblinks site is run

  • Weblinks is the winner of the year 2000 Becta/Guardian School/College Website Award in the Post-16 Resources for Teachers category and was shortlisted in the Curriculum category for the 1999 Becta UK School and College Web Site Awards.

  • Weblinks is managed by David Pickersgill, Digital CoVE Development Manager in the Sheffield College.

  • A large number of Sheffield College staff have made substantial contributions to Weblinks, in particular Richard Stevens (Biology) and Jo Tomalin (Maths).

  • Chris Croome, of webarchitects, took a key role in developing and designing the Weblinks site, finding suitable tools, advising on overall structure and navigation, and then implementing the Gossamer Threads Links script on which the area depends.

The site has been designed to work with any browser, is image free to make it as quick as possible, complies with HTML 4.0, and makes use of style sheets. It also complies with the Bobby standards for web accessibility for people with disabilities.

  • We are currently making the links area on the Sheffield College's web-site freely available, and intend to maintain this policy in the future.

  • We are currently working with the Showroom cinema in Sheffield in order to enhance our film-related links and develop the Showroom's educational programme. This area of Weblinks is edited by the Showroom.

If you wish to discuss formal collaboration in the creation and maintenance of the site, and issues such as replicating the site locally on your own server, please contact us.

  • We do check for linkrot, however, if you find a link which does not function, please tell us using the Feedback page.

  • We would appreciate your opinion of the Weblinks site. Please use the Feedback page to record your views.
